Manual Matters

About Manual Matters

Manual Matters is an independent, US-focused guide to maintaining the gas-powered equipment most homeowners own: walk-behind mowers, snow blowers, pressure washers and portable generators.

Why this site exists

The information that keeps these machines running is already written down, in owner's manuals and on manufacturer support pages. The problem is that it is scattered across PDFs, model numbers and brand websites, and the answers people find in search results are often generic or copied from each other. We pull the relevant instruction out of the official document, explain it in plain English, and link the source so you can verify it.

How a guide is made

  1. We pick a real question owners ask, such as how much oil a specific engine takes or what to do with fuel before storage.
  2. We find the manufacturer's own manual or support page for that engine or machine and read the relevant section in full.
  3. We write the answer first, then the steps, then the exceptions. Where manufacturers disagree, we show both positions.
  4. Every number on the page (capacity, gap, interval, torque) must appear in a source listed at the bottom of that page. If we cannot source it, we leave it out.
  5. Each guide shows the date it was last checked. When a manufacturer updates a page, we update ours.

What we are not

We are not affiliated with Briggs & Stratton, Honda, Ariens, Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Generac, Cat Pumps or any other manufacturer named on this site. We do not sell parts. There is no advertising on this site at this stage.

Corrections

If you find an error, or your manual says something different for your model, please tell us through the contact page. Include the model number and, if you can, the page of the manual. Confirmed corrections are made promptly and the page date is updated.

Safety

Small-engine work involves gasoline, hot parts, sharp blades and, with generators, carbon monoxide. Our guides repeat the safety steps the manufacturers specify. If a job is beyond your tools or comfort, an authorized service dealer is the right call. Read our terms for the full disclaimer.
